FIELD TRIP: Gropius House (MA)

Join us for an intimate tour of the 1938 Bauhaus home designed by Walter Gropius.

Join the Design Museum Everywhere community on Friday, October 20, from 10–11 am for an intimate tour of the Gropius House, the 1938 family home built by Walter Gropius, founder of the German design school known as the Bauhaus.

Modest in scale, the Gropius House was revolutionary in impact and is now recognized as a National Historic Landmark. The home combines traditional elements of New England architecture—wood, brick, and fieldstone—with innovative materials including glass block, acoustical plaster, chrome banisters, and the latest technology in fixtures. It features furniture designed by Marcel Breuer and fabricated in Bauhaus workshops, alongside the Gropius family’s possessions, still in place and offering a sense of intimacy.

Field Trips are a benefit of membership in the Design Impact Society and Organizational Partnership. General Members are also welcome to reserve tickets for $15/person. A select number of FREE student tickets are also available on a first-come, first-served basis.
