What We Need From Design Culture: Careers and Identity

The design process has often been used to uphold tenets of dominant group identities. That means for some designers, particularly BIPOC designers, pursuing a career in design can be a beautifully strange and lonely journey, and the phenomenon of simultaneously feeling like an insider and outsider among the circles/worlds they inhabit can be complicated.

Join us on Thursday, November 3, 9-10:30 am in Portland and online for What We Need From Design Culture: Careers and Identity with Jenny Delgado, AIA, LEED AP Principal, Education Practice Leader at CannonDesign, and Jezarely Miguel, Founder and Designer of Matiz. In addition to sharing their personal stories about building careers in design, they will discuss how they have pursued learning and understanding and what they have discovered about how to plug in and make an impact in their respective fields.

The location has accessible parking and accessible bathrooms. There are bike racks out front and it’s on a bus line. Masks are encouraged but not required. The health and safety of our guests remain our top priority. Please do not attend the event if you are feeling sick.

Design Museum Live is a monthly hybrid event series for Design Museum Everywhere members that alternates between different venues in Portland, Oregon, and Boston, Massachusetts. Each event begins with a way to wake up and engage your design mind, followed by conversations with leading designers, panel discussions, interviews, live streams, or workshops.
