An exclusive event for Director’s Circle, Patron, and Advocate level members.

What happens behind the scenes of a major stop-motion production? Join us for our next Field Trip to LAIKA animation studios. Every season we bring our Director’s Circle, Patron, and Advocate level members to interesting, design-focused spots all around Portland for special behind-the-scenes tours and encounters. We offer our members exclusive access to innovative people and unique places.

On August 5th, we’ll take a trip to LAIKA’s Hillsboro location for a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of this award winning studio where puppets and sets are brought to life. Guests will also enjoy a glimpse at LAIKA’s next feature film, Kubo and the Two Strings.

LAIKA is an animation studio specializing in feature films. Travis Knight serves as President and CEO of the company, which is owned by Nike co-founder and Chairman Philip H. Knight. LAIKA has a 30+ year animation history presenting the artistry of award-winning filmmakers, designers and animators. LAIKA’s latest film, the Oscar-nominated The Boxtrolls premiered to critical acclaim in September 2014. The studio also produced two other Oscar-nominated features: ParaNorman (2012) and Coraline (2009) as well as the CG short Moongirl (2005). The studio’s fourth feature, Kubo and the Two Strings will open in theaters nationwide on August 19, 2016. The film will be directed by Travis Knight, with a voice cast that includes Academy Award winners Matthew McConaughey and Charlize Theron and Academy Award nominees Rooney Mara, Ralph Fiennes and Brenda Vaccaro.  Art Parkinson is providing the voice for the title character of Kubo.
