Position Summary: 

Design Museum Everywhere is looking for a digital savvy storyteller to be a full-time Marketing and Communications Associate to manage our strategic communications and marketing efforts. The Marketing and Communications Associate will be responsible for increasing public awareness of the museum and our work, growing our audiences, and linking these efforts to revenue opportunities in partnership with the rest of the staff and in alignment with our mission. The position reports directly to the Executive Director. 

Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for advancing equity in design, visual storytelling, social media, and the museum’s mission to bring the transformative power of design everywhere. While not required, graphic design experience, particularly in designing collateral material for web and print is a plus.

Core Responsibilities 

  • Promote museum programs and events, including creating events on Eventbrite, putting content on our website, sending invitations to partners, and following up with attendees.
  • Develop compelling content for social media, the e-newsletter, and the website.
  • Monitor, engage, and post on the museum’s social media channels (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook). 
  • Create paid and earned media campaigns (social media, retargeting, etc.), and monitor and adapt as necessary. 
  • Follow urgent issues and trends across the design fields and the museum’s twelve impact areas and work with the Executive Director to draft statements and/or connect our community to museum resources as applicable. 
  • Manage content calendar, working closely with staff on their programmatic updates, to ensure a strategic distribution of content and marketing resources. 
  • Write and post blog posts, event listings, and program announcements on the museum’s website using WordPress.
  • Help to ensure clear visual messaging/branding on website and collateral material.
  • Identity and reach out to organizations to be community partners. 
  • Draft and send press releases when necessary; maintain a press list. 

Qualifications

  • Passion for nonprofit digital marketing, communications, and design. 
  • At least 2 years of related experience, and a demonstrated ability to adapt writing styles to fit different audiences and platforms.
  • A demonstrated commitment to anti-racist practices in marketing, communications, and storytelling.
  • Knowledgeable about social media best practices, particularly in the arts and/or nonprofit sectors. 
  • Experience with the following tools/processes: Google Docs, Social Media channels (Instagram/Facebook/LinkedIn/Twitter), Notion.
  • Collaborative spirit, and experience working across departments and with external stakeholders and community members. 

Details

  • Begin ASAP
  • Full-time: Monday-Friday, hours are generally 9-5 ET. 
  • Remote position, and open to candidates to the following states where the museum is a registered employer: Massachusetts, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and/or New York. Staff will work together in-person for one week each year. 
  • Salary range: $40,000-$43,000/year
