SUMMARY:The Current: Avoiding Jargon in Leadership and Innovation
DESCRIPTION:The Current: Avoiding Jargon in Leadership and Innovation\nJoin us for a virtual lightning talk on April 21 with communications expert Catherine Cruveillier and Parsons student Kanushi Rathore\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Tune into another episode of The Current. On April 21\, Parsons School of Design student Kanushi Rathore will host Catherine Cruveillier\, an expert in operational excellence and leadership development\, to explore how the overreliance on jargon in professional spaces obscures clarity\, complicates decision-making\, and stifles true innovation. \nThe language of leadership often becomes a barrier rather than a bridge. When we lean on buzzwords\, we risk losing the human intent behind our work and alienating the very people we aim to lead. This conversation will unpack the necessity of communicating with intention and the courage it takes to embrace simplicity in complex innovation contexts. Kanushi and Catherine will discuss how stripping away the fluff allows for more transparent leadership\, sharper strategic alignment\, and deeper connection across teams. Join us to learn how to master the art of plain speaking as a deliberate lever for effective leadership and authentic impact. \nTheir conversation will delve into: \n\nHow technical and corporate shorthand can create “knowledge silos” and hinder inclusive decision-making.\nWhy the most effective leaders are those who can translate complex visions into clear\, actionable\, and human language.\nStrategies for designers and innovators to advocate for clarity in high-stakes environments.\nHow to cultivate an authentic leadership voice that prioritizes understanding over sounding “expert.”\n\nAbout Kanushi Rathore:Driven by a passion for strategic foresight and human-centric design\, Kanushi Rathore is a student at Parsons School of Design focused on the intersection of innovation and inclusive leadership. With a background in navigating complex organizational structures\, Kanushi is dedicated to uncovering how clear communication and intentional design can bridge the gap between high-level strategy and everyday impact. She believes that for innovation to be truly transformative\, it must first be understood by those it serves. \nAbout Catherine Cruveillier:Catherine Cruveillier is an international human development expert and leader with over 40 years of experience\, including 11 as a leadership coach. She led projects that measurably transformed entire industries for the better worldwide by making humans adopt practices that create financial value from respecting natural life systems instead of destroying them. She understood that the core factor of success in any endeavor is mindful communication. She now shares her winning recipe through writing and holding “Socratic conferences”\, where participants learn and practice the simplest yet most powerful words. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Tuesday\, April 21\, 2026\n12-12:30 pm ET / 9-9:30 am PT\nVirtual Lightning Talk\n \n \n \n \n \n Registration is required. \n \n Register Now\n \n \n \n \n \n Students\, Members and Partners register for FREE. SUMMARY:Community Meetup: Third Space (BOS) - Collage Making
DESCRIPTION:Community Meetup: Third Space – Collage Making @ LA+D\nConnect with others\, build relationships\, and collage! Supplies provided\, no artistic ability required.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Join us on Wednesday\, April 22\, from 5:30-7:30pm ET for a Third Space gathering at Lesley University College of Art & Design (LA+D) in Cambridge\, MA. As we continue to embrace analog making\, this month’s Third Space is all about collage-making. We’ll provide sample prompts to get you started and the necessary supplies. \nIn collaboration with LA+D\, we aim to connect\, celebrate\, and create in a space outside the classroom and boardroom. Our third spaces are physically and conceptually dwindling over time. We’re not giving ourselves enough permission to stop work\, leave the home\, and do something else. So\, let’s continue our reimagining of a third space: a place\, a time\, and an activity. Come for the activity\, stay for the conversation! \nAll are welcome! \nThis program is inspired by and in partnership with Shashank Khandewal and Blue Tiger\, who are hosting “Third Space” events. In sociology\, a “third space” refers to a social environment that is distinct from home (the first place) and work/school (the second place). It’s a place where individuals can connect with others\, build relationships\, and foster a sense of community. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Wednesday\, April 22\, 2026\nLesley University College of Art & Design\nLunder Arts Common (Lower Level)\n1801 Massachusetts Ave\nCambridge\, MA 02140\n5:30 – 7:30 pm ET\n \n \n \n \n \n FREE to Attend! \n \n Register Now\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Program Contributors \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Kate Castelli\nDepartment Chair of Communication Design\, LA+D \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Shalini Prasad\nDepartment Chair of Communication Design\, LA+D\nCouncil Member\, CoDesign Collaborative \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Become a member to attend special events free of charge\, and get Unfold Magazine mailed twice a year.\nMembership starts at just $5/month.\n \n Join

Design assumptions are tested the moment the doors open\, but the real story of a project unfolds during its occupancy. Join Scott Edwards Architecture (SEA) and CoDesign Collaborative on Wednesday\, May 13\, for an interactive “how-to” workshop focused on the power of Post-Occupancy Evaluations (POEs). \nA Post-Occupancy Evaluation is a systematic process used to assess a building after it has been occupied. By analyzing the bridge between design intent and actual use\, we can identify critical opportunities to improve occupant satisfaction\, building performance\, and overall functionality. This workshop goes beyond the surface to explore how POEs serve as a catalyst for positive change. We will discuss how these evaluations provide: \n\n\nQuantitative Data: Tracking sustainability successes and energy goals based on actual performance rather than projections. \n\n\nQualitative Feedback: Analyzing how inclusive and equitable a building is for the people who use it every day. \n\n\nContinuous Improvement: Validating design assumptions to help our clients\, our communities\, and our future projects. \n\n\nFormatted as a hands-on working session\, this program guides attendees through the framework of POE development. Participants will: \n\n\nLearn from Case Studies: SEA team members will share real-world examples of POE findings and how they informed subsequent design solutions. \n\n\nPlan a POE: In small breakout groups\, attendees will apply lessons learned to a hypothetical project\, determining the necessary background info (as-built drawings\, utility bills)\, defining metrics\, and drafting user survey questions. \n\n\nEngage in Critical Dialogue: We will tackle the “tough questions” of the industry\, such as financing strategies for evaluations\, navigating the risks of sharing negative results\, and leveraging data to grow collectively as an industry. \n\n\nSharing and collaborating through these evaluations is vital to our growth as an industry. By taking the time to understand the actual performance and functionality of our work\, we can ensure our designs have a far-reaching and positive impact. \nAbout Juliette Grummon-BealeJuliette Grummon-Beale joined Scott Edwards Architecture in 2022 as the firm’s Sustainability Lead. She has over 15 years of experience in architecture and has worked on a wide range of project types\, including municipal buildings\, libraries\, community centers\, and higher education facilities.
