What do Airbnb, Kickstarter, YouTube, and Etsy have in common? They were all founded by designers!

In this month’s Design is Everywhere podcast live show, host Sam Aquillano (a design entrepreneur himself!) explores what is possible at the intersection of design and entrepreneurship. Guest co-host Sara Hartmann is a MassArt educator and e-commerce entrepreneur who has designed costumes for The History Channel, The Boston Conservatory, and more. Their guest is Steve Hoffman, Captain & CEO of Founders Space, one of the world’s leading startup accelerators, and author of Surviving a Startup: Practical Strategies for Starting a Business, Overcoming Obstacles, and Coming Out on Top.

Whether you’re a designer looking to break into entrepreneurship or an entrepreneur wanting to transform your business through design thinking, this insightful conversation will help you take your work to the next level. Be sure to bring your questions and ask them live on air to get personalized advice from our guests.

Sara Hartmann is an educator and arts entrepreneurship change agent. As faculty at Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt), she founded the Creative Economy Business Incubator, a scale-agnostic program designed to support the unique needs of art, design, and cultural ventures. Sara also produces MassArt’s Creative Economy Workshop Series in partnership with the City of Boston. This popular series offers free business skills training and professional development for artists and designers. She has taught business and design at UMass Dartmouth, Simmons University, Mount Ida College and Lasell College. Prior to academia, Sara worked both as a costume designer for theater and opera, and as a digital marketer for apparel and consumer product start-ups. Her experience moving between the cultural and innovation economies has inspired her work addressing the resource gaps faced by would-be founders in creative industries.

Steve Hoffman, or Captain Hoff as he’s called in Silicon Valley, is the Captain & CEO of Founders Space, one of the world’s leading startup accelerators. He’s also a venture investor, serial entrepreneur, and author of several award-winning books. These include Make Elephants Fly (published by Hachette) and Surviving a Startup (published by HarperCollins). Founders Space has become one of the top startup accelerators in the world. Hoffman has trained hundreds of startup founders and corporate executives in the art of innovation and provided consulting to many of the world’s largest corporations, including Qualcomm, Huawei, Bosch, Intel, Disney, Warner Brothers, NBC, Gulf Oil, Siemens, and Viacom.
