Design Museum Everywhere, with Powerful Pathways and OverUnder, is pleased to announce the Blue Hill Avenue Pop-Up Exhibition in Boston. Via the City of Boston, the Blue Hill Avenue Transportation Action Plan is a city and state planning initiative to redesign Blue Hill Avenue, from Grove Hall to Mattapan Square. It will include sidewalks, crossings, adding green space, expanding public art, and enhancing bus service. The pop-up exhibition seeks to provide historical context and room for public feedback on improving the corridor.

The exhibition is open to the public on the following dates at Boston Public Library locations:
Mattapan Branch from April 1-April 15. Open House: Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 6-8pm
Grove Hall Branch from April 17-April 29. Open House: Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 6-8pm

The Blue Hill Avenue Transportation Action Plan seeks to enhance and support the experiences of everyone with connections to Blue Hill Avenue. Blue Hill Avenue runs through the heart of Boston, and connects people with places of education, worship, and recreation both locally and throughout the city. It is a vibrant commercial corridor full of bustling BIPOC-owned businesses. The corridor provides vital access to and from the city’s major employment centers for Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan residents. This three-mile stretch also supports the highest bus ridership in the entire MBTA system, with almost 25,000 people getting on and off buses each weekday.

Design Museum Everywhere is excited for the opportunity to collaborate on this exhibition and to help promote community-based involvement in city planning design. We feel that public engagement and feedback is a key component to any design process to ensure that the final design best works for the community it is intended to serve. Stop by either Boston Public Library location listed above to check out the exhibition and share your thoughts on improvements to Blue Hill Avenue! We are excited to see this project develop and watch how these community-based efforts will help to revitalize Blue Hill Avenue.
