Every season we screen a unique design-related film at local theaters. All are invited as we showcase documentaries, films from emerging directors, and movies that explore the creative process.

This season we are screening The Land (2015), a short documentary film about the nature of play, risk, and hazard set in The Land, a Welsh “adventure” playground.  At The Land children climb trees, light fires, and use hammers and nails in a play-space rooted in the belief that kids are empowered when they learn to manage risks on their own.

The importance of unstructured and risky play is being discovered all over the world — and The Land shows just what this looks like in practice.

Following the film, audiences will have the opportunity to download about the movie, ask questions, and engage in a Q&A with local play advocates Will Hathaway of Multnomah Art Center fame, and Jess Graff, a leader in the adventure play movement with Portland Children’s Museum.

The Venue • The Pacific Northwest College of Art prepares students for a life of creative practice. As Oregon’s premier college of art and design since 1909, Pacific Northwest College of Art has helped shape the region’s visual arts landscape for more than a century.
